"Although the therapeutic value of dogs on humans is enormously well documented, it manifests itself every time Amelie and her dogs make an appearance! Our lowest functioning participant's "wake up" & respond with a glow in their eyes. They engage all people with dementia in the meaningful interactions that help improve quality of life!" ~Brandi
Would you like your dog to be a "star" while you are doing a good deed? Then consider Therapy Dog Visitations. All you need is a well behaved, people friendly dog and the time to visit children and/or adults.
You will visit people residing in various institutions such as day care centers, nursing homes, group homes, assisted living centers or even hospitals. This activity creates a win-win situation for all.
People who otherwise might feel forgotten become the center of attention. Your dog will receive loving feedback. You will be proud of your well behaved dog and of yourself for having made this moment possible. All it takes is some training for your dog to become a certified therapy dog and the time and effort for you to schedule the visitations.
Once your dog has learned good manners and has no special issues, the preparation to pass the therapy dog certification test is neither complicated nor lengthy. I encourage my clients to consider becoming therapy partners with their dogs and have received many wonderful comments on how happy they are with their new avocation. I would be delighted to help you and your dog prepare and pass the therapy dog certification test.
